Meghan is a Director in structured finance at the investment banking firm Societe Generale. She graduated from Geneseo in 1997 with a Sociology degree and minors in Biology and Environmental Science. Meghan is also an active member of the NYC Alumni Regional Committee and the Geneseo Women’s Network. Lawrence Heath (’13) spoke to her about her career and asked her advice for current students and recent graduates. Top three “money” quotes from Meghan: 1) “There were certainly analysts in the group that concentrated on being assigned to any and all deals, but then did not provide a consistent or correct product. Putting my head down and providing thorough and diligent work proved to be a better model than being staffed on everything without producing any substance. Over time the lack of deep product understanding weeded a lot of my peers out.” 2) “You cannot undervalue the experience you’ll gain by putting your head down and working hard.” 3) “Try to find somebody (without hounding them) who can help guide you for your career. It doesn’t have to be one person. You need to be open to looking at a few people who are willing to help you move forward.” Last year, Alyssa Anderson Gonlag (Class of 2005), introduced us to a fabulous group that she works with, Girls on the Run. This past December a hearty group from Geneseo volunteered to help out at Girls on the Run's 5K race for 3rd through 8th grade girls in the NYC area. GOTR is back in action on June 20th and you can help by joining the Geneseo team! What is Girls on the Run? GOTR is a mentoring program for girls grades 3-8. The girls meet twice a week and learn life skills through fun and engaging lessons, culminating in an end of season 5K Race that's all about confidence, character and compassion. The 5K is family friendly event that is open to the public. How can I help? As the girls' season completes this June, GOTR needs volunteers to help as running buddies for the girls during their race, as well as general day-of volunteers to help give out water, medals and smiles, or general 5K runners to run this non timed fun run. How do I sign up? Click on the link below to register. You will be asked for your preference on what type of volunteering you'll be doing, and to identify the group you are affiliated with. Please make sure you enter "Geneseo" as our group so that we know who is involved and can send you further info as the event date gets closer. Any questions at all, just send us an email and we'll try to help you out. Want more info?
